Manchester United lost the Barclays Premier League title which they have held for the last few years last weekend. Going into the final day of the season United had to win and hope that Chelsea didn't win their match against Wigan.
United did comfortably beat Stoke City 4-0 at Old Trafford but it was all out of The Reds hands as Chelsea emphatically hammered Wigan 8-0 at Stamford Bridge.
To add even more insult to injury, star striker Wayne Rooney also lost out on the golden boot to Chelsea' Didier Drogba who scored a hat-trick in the win over Wigan. The two strikers were both on 26 goals apiece before the final match but Drogba eventualy won after a few tears on the park before he scored his hat-trick as Frank Lampard stopped him from taking a penalty.
The only thing to say for United is hard lines, there's always next year!

Sunderland 0 - 1 United
United kept the pressure on Chelsea with a fine 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. United knew nothing but a victory over the Black Cats would keep them in contention for the title going into the final game of the season after Chelsea had earlier on in the day ran out deserved winners in an impressive 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
The Reds were lucky enough to welcome back the impressive Wayne Rooney back to the starting eleven, as Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves and Ji-Sung Park returned to the bench.
Man United started the game brightly with early chances falling to Rooney and Berbatov but both failed to capitalise on some poor Sunderland defending. The game was passing by without much incident until the 28th minute when some slick one touch passing from Fletcher, Rooney and Berbatov set up the in form Nani in the box for him to fire a low shot with the outside of his right foot past Craig Gordon in the Sunderland goal. United finished off the first half in fairly impressive style but the scoreline remained 1-0.
The second half started much the same as the first with Sunderland not really troubling Manchester United at all. The best Man United managed was a few half chances for Patrice Evra and Dimitar Berbatov but none of them really troubled he Sunderland defence. There were another couple of chances that followed before had a decent shot well saved by Craig Gordon

United 3 - 1 Spurs
United stayed hot on the heels of Chelsea with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur without the in form & PFA Player of the year, Wayne Rooney. The victory put United on top of the league with Chelsea playing their game against Stoke on Sunday.
As for the game on Saturday, the first half at Old Trafford was fairly quiet with the score level at 0-0. Although United had the best chances of the half they had nothing to show for it.
The second half started much the same as the first half finished with United on top and commanding the game. Spurs managed to create a few chances but nothing that troubled Edwin Van der Sar in the United goal.
The match sprung to life in the 58th minute when Patrice Evra was bundled over in the box and a penalty was awarded which was clinically dispatched by the 'Welsh Wizard' Ryan Giggs. United then had another couple of chances but nothing too threatening, only calling Spurs 'keeper Gomes into action once.
Spurs gradually started coming back into the game and had a number of chances before Ledley King headed home from a gareth bale corner in the 70th minute. Bale was beginning to cause a few problems down the Tottenham left but was in the end well dealt with. Another few chances followed for both sides before Nani raced into the box to finish off an absolutely fantastic world class chip over Gomes to put the home side 2-1 up with only 9 minutes remaining.
Spurs had thrown on Eidur Gudjohnsen and Peter Crouch who did cause a few problems but once again Nani picked up the ball on the half way line, raced into the spurs box and was brought down which resulted in Ryan Giggs finishing the match off from the penalty spot for the second time of the afernoon with only 5 minutes to go.
The result had put United back on top pf the Premier League with Chelsea playing on Sunday, but unfortunately for the Old trafford side Chelsea returned back to the top of the league with a convincing 7-0 victory over stoke at Stamford Bridge. The result also put them in the driving seat with the goal difference aswell, giving them a bit more breathing space.
Next up for United is an away game at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland on Sunday.

Manchester Derby
A crucial headed goal from midfield maestro Paul Scholes helped keep United's title hopes alive with a 1-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester City.
United had dominated most of the game as City seemed to sit in and be happy with a draw but Scholes popped up with the winning goal with just 12 seconds left on the clock to send the red half of Manchester into raptures.
The result ment even more when later on in the afternoon Spurs managed to beat title rivals Chelsea 2-1. The result means Chelsea still lead the Barclays Premier League by 1 point and are also 2 goals better off.
United continue their fight for the title this Saturday with a hard game at home to Spurs who are coming off the back of two 2-1 victories over Arsenal and Chelsea so it promises not to be an easy game.
